Wishing You a Happiest New Year

Photo above ... Frosty morning in Florida but it sure beats the NY blizzard!
The Holidays are now behind us and I'm busy trying to catch up on all the many things that have been neglected while I enjoyed a wonderful visit with my youngest daughter.  As some of you may have read in my previous post, Wendi's flight out of Florida to NYC on December 26th, was cancelled due to the northeastern blizzard.  She had been re-booked to depart on Dec. 28th, however that flight too was ultimately cancelled and the soonest she was able to get a flight was on Thursday, the 30th, at an airport almost 100 miles south of us !
Though Santa didn't bring me jewels or fancy gadgets, he brought me the most precious gift of all ... a very lovely and long visit with my daughter.  There are just somethings money can not buy. :)

If you recall I posted some photos of my beautiful poinsettia plant just before the holidays and I worried about how the cold spell would affect it.  Photo below shows all too clearly that poinsettias do not fair well in freezing temps .

We broke an all time record with temps that dipped down to 23 degrees, that's really cold for us here in  south Florida.

I wish you all the Happiest New Year; may it be blessed with good health, filled with the love of dear family and friends, and may it hold bright promises for the future along with prosperity, peace on Earth and good will to all.

  3. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too Anna my dear Blogger Buddy :)

WHat a joy to have Wendi home for so long, I have been enjoying my family around me too, it is the best, isn't it!

Hope you get to thaw out a bit and maybe your plant will survive?

    Have a wonderful Day, T. ;)

  4. You did get the greatest gift-- the gift of time with your daughter. I am so thankful she made it back safely. My son wasn't here long enough, but this is not his home now and he was happy to be back in Brooklyn. Oh, that poinsettia is so sad. But it will be back again, prettier than ever!

  5. Happy New Year, lady! Glad you had a wonderful visit with your daughter and she finally made it home safely. I can't believe it was that cold in Florida, wow! I was daydreaming of being back in St. Augustine last week while I was shoveling an uncommonly early snow from my driveway in Delaware, but I suppose I should have set my sights somewhere more tropical!

I can certainly see and understand your point.
But nature designs the species, the species do not design nature. We can not tell the big cats of the jungle that they shall not kill and eat the flesh of other animals for that is how they evolved through evolution. Even dinosaurs had their carnivores; Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, among many others !
Man is an omnivore and our diet includes many things ... high on the list is protein derived from the flesh of fish and game. Blame Mother Nature if you like but that is just how we've evolved either through fate or the hand of God.
True, I agree that we would be better off and healthier if we cut back on our consumption of meats, especially since in our day and age much of our cattle and poultry have been inoculated with hormones and antibiotics.

  7. The very same for a super happy 2011 to you too Anna! It must have been stressful for Wendi not being able to get home but at the same time at least you were together and that makes a really big difference.

So sad to see what happened to your pointsetta :-( That is very cold for you guys at any time of year. How is the produce faring through all of this? I remember a cold snap you had a few years back that heavily impacted that industry. I hope you all begin to regulate soon!
