One of our southern "Pets" (rather pests) the Lubber grasshopper. These insects are said to grow as large as 50 to 70 mm but I could have swore the one I saw last summer was much bigger than 3 inches, to me he appeared to be at least 4 inches from head to end.
I was told that the best way to kill a Lubber is to just step on it...no way am I about to step on something as big as a mouse, I can't stand to step on our huge Florida Palmetto bugs (humongous cockroaches). Our Lubber was given free reign of our garden, just hope he doesn't return this year.
